The Labyrinth of Time’s Edge: A New Era Begins — Save, Explore, and Forge Your Legend!

Greetings, fellow adventurers!

Today, I am proud to introduce something that has been a long time in the making. Over the past few days, I’ve dedicated a large portion of my time to refining the look and feel of the game — updating the original “Print Commands” so they now run more smoothly and fit the aesthetic more beautifully. I figured it was time for a change. But that’s not the only reason we’ve made the jump to version 4.1.11.

The star covered night sky. Something, I think looks pretty neat.

The biggest update — and one I’m incredibly excited about — is the addition of a save and load feature! Now, from anywhere in the game world, you will be able to save your location and continue your adventure whenever you wish. I know, for some, the ability to save and load might not seem like a big deal — but for me, it’s monumental. Let me be honest: I’m no master programmer. In fact, I’ll say it flat out — I’m pretty awful at it! That’s why I’m creating this project in QBasic — because it’s the language I know and love.

Today, after hours of studying, countless trial and error moments, and no shortage of frustration, I finally cracked it. And when it worked — when I successfully saved and loaded my first test game — I literally jumped for joy like a kid celebrating a snow day! It was one of those rare, genuine moments of pure excitement.

This was critical, especially considering the scale of the game: I’m nearing 1,885 rooms — an enormous world for players to explore. Without a save feature, I feared players would eventually lose interest, unable to progress without restarting over and over. Now, that concern is behind me. Simply type SAVE at any point to store your progress, and LOAD to pick up right where you left off.

With that hurdle finally cleared, I can now turn my full attention back to expanding the world itself — and I’m beyond excited for what’s coming. A fork in the road is approaching: one path will draw you into a realm filled with ghosts, ghouls, witches, and spirits, while the other will plunge you into a land of dragons, serpents, and ancient magic. It’s a thrilling divergence that I believe will bring an incredible richness to the experience.

New story screen that I think both looks and feels better then before.

As I write this, I can’t help but reflect on the changing world outside my window here in Edmonton, Alberta. Spring is upon us — the snow has melted, the air is fresh with renewal, and the streets are alive once again with energy and hope. There’s something about the way the seasons shift here that fills me with inspiration. Edmonton, with its endless blue skies and strong spirit, reminds me why I keep pressing forward. Just like the city itself, forever changing and growing, so too must our dreams and creative works flourish. It’s this surge of life all around me that renews my passion for this project and gives me the determination to keep building a world that you’ll all be proud to explore.

So when will version 4.1.11 be released?
Expect it within the next few days! It’s nearly ready — polished, tested, and waiting for brave souls like you.

Thank you for your endless support, your patience, and your shared love for adventures that push the boundaries of imagination.

And as always…
May the lantern guide your way on the adventure of life.
