Greetings, fellow adventurers!
Lately, I’ve been dreaming up ideas—ideas that could forever change our gaming world. Despite everything that’s been happening in my life, and even though I’ve been nearly running on fumes, I want you all to know that no matter how challenging things become, I’ll always make time for you.
I’ve indeed been working my fingers to the bone to bring my project to life for your enjoyment. At times, I feel as though I’ve been locked away in a distant fortress, isolated in the middle of nowhere during a terrible snowstorm, especially this past weekend, which admittedly has been somewhat of a write-off. Nonetheless, progress continues.
I’m excited to share that I’ve developed several new areas within the game. At this moment, I’ve just finished designing an exciting new section located on the outskirts of the kingdom. From there, you’ll have the freedom to return to the king or boldly venture into the expansive, wild world waiting for you to explore.
As I worked on this, I began wondering about the compilation process. To share the honest truth with you, previously, everything you saw in my game—the room descriptions, items, NPCs—was stored directly in the original source code. Every minor tweak or addition meant recompiling the entire game, which, believe me, consumed an enormous amount of time.
When I reached out on Reddit for advice, I was overwhelmed by offers from developers eager to assist—for a price. While I completely understand that everyone’s time and expertise have value, I was merely seeking guidance. Fortunately, amidst these responses, I received a genuine helping hand, one that dramatically transformed my development process.
Thanks to this generous support, the game’s architecture underwent a significant update. Now, instead of recompiling with every change, I can conveniently edit everything within a separate text file, “Room.txt,” from which the game dynamically loads content. This not only streamlines the development process but also drastically reduced the game’s original source file from over twenty-six thousand lines of code to just over six thousand lines, a remarkable improvement.
This change has opened endless possibilities for our adventure, allowing the game to grow indefinitely. Rest assured, I’ll continue dedicating myself fully, so expect regular updates and exciting new additions.
Stay tuned—our journey is just getting started!
