Expanding the Adventure: New Areas and Big Dreams.

Greetings, fellow adventurers!

Welcome to another weekly edition of my ever-ongoing blog about my text adventure game—my dream game, my magnum opus… okay, I’ll stop.

This past week has been a whirlwind of designing new locations for the game. But first, a quick life update. I managed to bank some extra hours at work and got off early on Friday. Honestly, that was for the best because, if you’re from the Edmonton area like me, you would’ve witnessed one heck of a snowstorm—whiteout conditions, ice, the whole nine yards. I drove home through it, barely able to see a thing. In hindsight, it would’ve been nice to spend a stormy Friday afternoon with my family, but unfortunately, that didn’t work out.

My wife, who has been dealing with ongoing medical issues for years, had a flare-up and was admitted to the hospital. It’s never easy, but we keep pushing forward. In the meantime, I worked extra hours again this week while also pouring every spare moment into expanding the world of my game. This project has become a second job for me—one I truly love.

Introducing “The Titan’s Heart”

The first major expansion I worked on this week is titled The Titan’s Heart. This area is all about contrast—the delicate balance between life and death. I had this idea for a long time: a place where some unseen force, something beyond comprehension, is forging a god. It’s an area teeming with strange supernatural energy, where life begins to take root as unseen hands breathe existence into it.

On one side, plants flourish, stretching toward an unseen sun. On the other, an eerie pool lies still, its surface concealing something unnatural—something inhuman. It lingers always just at the corner of your vision, yet slips away when you try to focus on it. Deeper within the area, you’ll encounter creeping vines reaching toward the light and a lone survivor—a man driven to the edge of madness, clutching onto his story as though it’s the only thing keeping him sane.

I had a blast designing this section. There’s something about a good text adventure that just begs for a temple, and this area delivers on that classic trope. More than just a visually striking location, The Titan’s Heart serves as a significant gateway within the game, leading the player toward the next phase of the journey.

The Surface Beckons: “The Waking Ruins”

North of The Titan’s Heart lies The Waking Ruins—a stark contrast to the depths below. This area represents the surface world, a place meant to feel vibrant and alive after the long, eerie descent into the underworld.

One of my goals with this game is to create a world that constantly shifts and evolves. I want players to feel like they’re truly journeying through realms—some descending into the depths of the unknown, others emerging into the light. The return to the surface is an important milestone, a chance to see the world beyond the darkness. And from there, the game expands further—you’ll return to the kingdom, and perhaps, in time, venture beyond to new lands and even other kingdoms.

I’ve always dreamed of building a vast text adventure—one where you start as a simple adventurer, seeking to right a wrong, facing legendary foes, and uncovering wondrous treasures. A world that constantly grows, filled with fantastical individuals and untold stories waiting to be discovered.

A Call to Adventure

I believe in this project with all my heart. It’s free to download right now on this site. If you haven’t tried it yet, grab it today, play it, and spread the word. Let’s turn the dream into reality. Because at the end of the day, we only have one life to live—so why not make it an adventure?

Until next time, happy adventuring!
